The Synopsis
On June 15, 71CE, the protagonist hero Kira Yamato from the prequel to this series, Gundam Seed, engaged in a fierce battle against the attackers of the neutral nation Orb. While doing a phenomenal job protecting the people long enough for most of them to escape, missiles after missiles packed with nuclear power were launched into the skies. Orb Resident Shinn Asuka and his family were on the run just below Kira's gundam, the Freedom, and the offending Calamity and Raider gundams. Shinn's younger sister dropped her cell phone in her rush to catch up with their parents, and refused her mother's attempts to keep moving until she got it back. Shinn jumped down the hillside to get it for her. Just as he picked it up, a stray beam from the Freedom fell from the sky. The next time he looks up, he sees his younger sister's bloody arm. He climbs to the top of the hill to find the death of his family outlined in grotesque detail. Shinn glares up at the battling gundams and screams his despair.
The time line jumps forward to a few years after the deciding battle of Jacchin Due at the end of the Gundam Seed series. Three mysterious strangers, Auel Neider, Sting Oakley and Stellar Loussier, are shown walking through the streets near a ZAFT military base. Shinn bumps into Stellar and accidentally grabs her around the chest as he tries to regain his balance. Stellar shoves him aside after a moment of surprise, and races back to her two companions. The ZAFT base is bustling with activity, busy preparing for the upcoming launch of their newest warship, the Minerva. Pilot Rey Za Burrel, one of the elite in red uniform, watches the arrival of the new Chairman Dunnlindal from the distance.
Athrun, under the alias "Alex Dino" the bodyguard of the Representative of Orb, and Cagalli pay a visit to the Zaft stronghold apparently unannounced. Cagalli wants ZAFT to quit using Orb technology to keep from bringing about another arms race, especially after all the pain they went through for peace. Dullindal argues that peaceful times does not call for a relinquishing of power -- especially a power meant to protect themselves from possible threats. As the group walks through the military base, Athrun takes note of ZAFT's newest military advancements. The Chairman's conversation with Cagalli is interrupted by a sudden breach in security by three Earth Forces Extended soldiers who steal three new ZAFT units: Gaia, Abyss, and Chaos. The Earth forces perpetrators turn out to be the three strangers who were walking around in civilian clothes earlier. All three characters show unusual talent in fighting as they make a bloody mess of unfortunate ZAFT personnel in the Mobile Suit hangars.
After shouting orders for the protection of the Orb "princess" (Cagalli), Dullindal is ushered quickly to shelter within the Minerva. Athrun and Cagalli make a run for it, and end up face-to-face with two battling mobile suits. Athrun refuses to let Cagalli die "...in a place like this..." and hides the both of them in a stray mobile suit half buried under a pile of rubble. He attempts to fight off the two mobile suits but the limits of his own mobile suit (an older version) hobble him significantly. Right before the opposing mobile suit attacks the two, Shinn launches from the Minerva piloting ZAFT's newest gundam, the Impulse. It appears in three parts, beginning with Core Splendor (the "core" where Shinn pilots from), which combine with the other two pieces to transform into its full gundam form before the surprised eyes of Athrun and Cagalli. Shinn is furious that the thieves had started up a battle - "Do you want to start the war all over again?!"
The Review
Nice start. Although I have to question the alias name that Athrun decides to hide under - "Alex Dino" - just a little corny @-@; I'm sure they could've picked a better name xD.
