The Synopsis

This episode is basically a recap of everything that has happened so far - including multiple scenes from the prequel series, Gundam Seed. Shinn narrates his past before the start of the war until now. Flashback scenes of him playing with his little sister, Mayu, when she was still alive mix with other scenes of the war as it began to escalate. At first, the war didn't really seem much of a big deal to Shinn and his family, who were living in the peaceful recesses of Orb - far, far away from all the conflicts. The first major impression it had on him was when the Earth Forces came to Orb's shores for a short while, demanding that they join the Alliance. When they left, however, and nothing more happened, the event became a trivial piece of information.
After the death of his family under the crossfire of a fight between the Freedom and the Earth Alliance gundams, Shinn went to PLANT under the recommendation of the Orb officer who found him. After a lot of thought, he joined the ZAFT military.
Though he fights as a soldier now, he never wanted the war to begin with.

The Review

A boring episode for those who have already seen Gundam Seed or have been following Gundam Seed Destiny very closely - but a nice review for those who are new to the series. There are still some new scenes here and there of Shinn and his family as they watch the beginnings of the war and onward, so it's not all that bad. Definitely a grim atmosphere that stays throughout the whole 24 minutes of film.
