The Synopsis
Rey was mysteriously frightened when he and Shinn reached the Earth Alliance Federation's reasearch facility in Rodnia. Shinn has no idea what is wrong, and contacts the Minerva.
Meanwhile, Athrun's meeting with Kira and the others becomes even more tense as Athrun explains that he can no longer leave the military now that he has re-enlisted with ZAFT. Kira asks Athrun if he plans on continuing to fight the Earth Alliance as a ZAFT soldier, and Athrun tells him he has no choice. Kira tells Athrun that he understands what he is saying, that Earth isn't exactly doing good with all the concentration camps they're setting up to annihilate any resistance, but he reminds Athrun that once people die in war, they never come back. Athrun shouts at Kira, telling him not to think that he is the only one guilty of that - Kira, too, has killed countless people. The whole conversation turns bleak as it nears the time to leave. Athrun tells Cagalli that it was too late when she decided to make her stand to Orb, because Orb's soldiers had already entered the battlefield. His last words to his friends is that though his mind tells him not to leave, his body is telling him otherwise.
Captain Talia, upon hearing about Rey's suddenly critical condition, orders the Minerva to launch for the research facility. Upon arrival, they discover that the research facility did studies on human test subjects, as a part of Earth's Extended project. This project was the genetic enhancement of fighting abilities, creating human fighting machines bred solely for war. If a child test subject turned out to be useless, they would be killed without hesitation. The Minerva's tech crew deactivates the self-destruct devices that the research lab's personnel had tried to use when the research was turning awry. Captain Talia, who discovers records of the childrens' entrance and termination dates, orders that all the data in the lab be extracted.
Back in the Girty Lue, while repairs are still being made after Freedom's attack on their prized units, Stellar overhears a message about the research facility sent to Neo. She asks her fellow pilots, Auel and Sting, who are a bit confused at first, but later, Auel begins to remember his "mother" and starts screaming. Flashbacks of his trial in the research facility show that the only "mother" he remembers is the janitor who worked at the lab. Auel, Sting, and Stellar were portrayed as children in metal collars and green uniforms. Among many other children, they were trained to kill using a multitude of weapons. Auel begins to freak out, screaming for his long-lost mother as doctors from the Girty Lue try to restrain him. Suddenly he shouts one of Stellar's block words, "die," and sends Stellar on a sudden mission to escape to Rodnia. She explodes her way through the hatch in her Chaos gundam, repeating the words "Rodnia," "Protect," and "Mother."
When Stellar gets to the lab, she is headed off by Athrun and Shinn. Shinn manages to strike the pilot's cockpit, and realizes that he has hurt Stellar when he takes a closer look.
The Review
I couldn't seem to stop myself from taking extra screenshots of this episode x.x; it was soo powerful. We begin to get more glimpses behind Rey's past - and it begins to seem as if Rey himself is a survivor of Earth's Extended program.
