The Synopsis
Stellar is aboard XI Destroy, Earth's latest model. With it, she begins to live up to its name by ruthlessly destroying nearly all the Eurussian cities in sight, Neo's words that she must protect them or they will all die ringing in her ears. Kira launches in Freedom and begins to battle Destroy. His presence and the Archangel's presence in the battlefield shocks the Earth Forces, and Neo sends Stellar a desperate warning to take care because Freedom is strong. Stellar, despite this warning, goes crazy as she becomes obsessed with destroying this enemy who she believes threatens all that she loves. She transforms the Destroy into a mobile suit, shocking even the Earth Forces. She shoots out almost randomly, killing without a second thought. Kira gets furious at this ruthless slaughter, and attacks.
The Minerva arrives at the scene to find, to their surprise, that Freedom and the Archangel are fighting against the Earth Forces. Captain Talia assesses that they tend to fight wherever there is a call for help, and considers joining forces with them. She warns Shinn not to mistake them for the enemy, and to be aware of their own limited strength in this arena. Shinn launches in the Impulse. He is shocked at the monstrosity of the Destroy.
Neo, in his Windam, and Sting begin to fight Kira. With so many strong opponents, Kira is repeatedly defending himself, and is having a hard time stopping the Destroy alone. Cagalli has had enough, and prepares to launch in her Strike Rouge. Her Orb followers also decide to join in the fight, explaining that this is no longer a fight for Orb, but for life. Together these forces help Kira, and Cagalli tells Kira that they will take care of this while Kira goes for the main problem.
Shinn manages to strike the center of the pilot's cockpit in the Destroy, making Stellar scream. Neo sees this, and rushes to stop him, and tells him that the one piloting the Destroy is Stellar. Shinn is shocked at this news, and is suddenly motionless and hanging in the air.
Kira continues to try to find an opening in the Destroy's guard, and is suddenly confronted by Neo. He destroys Neo's Windam, asking Marrue Ramius to take care of this (whatever that meant). Stellar screams as she watches Neo's Windam fall. Kira comes down from the sky as Stellar begins to shoot randomly again, and strikes at the core of the Destroy. Shinn, seeing this, rushes to stop the Freedom, shouting for Kira to stop it because Kira has no idea what is going on. Shinn tries to calm Stellar, to get her to hear his voice. He moves his gundam close to the Destroy, and Stellar suddenly recognizes that it's Shinn. Behind the Impule, Stellar sees the Freedom, and suddenly remembers how Kira had destroyed Neo's Windam, and begins to start her guns again. At seeing this, Shinn's cries become more impassioned, but Stellar can no longer hear his cries to stop. Kira takes initiative and strikes at the center of Destroy's cannons, and tears its core apart. Shinn and Stellar scream as the Destroy explodes and falls.
Marrue Ramius comes down from the Archangel and sees, to her shock, that the fallen Neo looks exactly like Muu La Flaga.
Shinn gets Stellar out of the Destroy, and tries to wake her. Stellar opens her eyes and tells Shinn that she loves him. She closes her eyes and dies, and Shinn screams his pain at failing to protect another loved one.
The Review
A MUST SEE EPISODE!!! If you're a gundam seed fan or a gundam seed destiny fan, you had better see this one and live up to your name!
Shinn should've listened to Athrun way back there. Athrun had told Shinn that returning Stellar to the Earth Forces solved nothing, but Shinn would hear none of it.
Something interesting about this relationship between Shinn and Stellar - this reminds me a lot of Kira and Flay in Gundam Seed. Flay had also died, and had also been caught between the conflicting sides of the war.
About Muu La Flaga - I wonder if he may have survived after all and was found by Earth Forces as a victim of amnesia.
RECAP for the non-gundam-seed-watcher: In Gundam Seed, Muu La Flaga and Marrue Ramius had become a couple towards the end of the series. In the deciding battle of Jacchin Due, Natalia's new Earth Forces ship fired its cannons at Marrue Ramius's Archangel - aimed for the Captain's bridge. The Archangel had been caught off-guard, and would have perished had it not been for Muu La Flaga. After Kira had taken up the Freedom gundam, his previous gundam, the Strike, had been fixed and reformatted to fit a Natural. The Strike went to Muu La Flaga, who piloted this during Jacchin Due. He had used the Strike to block Natalia's positron cannon, and his gundam had been destroyed in the process. Muu La Flaga was assumed to be dead. His last words were "I guess I made the impossible possible after all."
