The Synopsis
After the Freedom and the Archangel disappeared below the ocean's surface, Captain Ramius began a series of emergency procedures to get them to safety as soon as possible. She ordered the release and self-destruction of one one of their engines to make ZAFT thing they had sunk, giving them the opportunity to escape.
Although the Freedom was struck, the cockpit remained as intact as it could have been, with Kira still alive inside. At the last moment, Kira had managed to turn off the nuclear reactor built into the Freedom, which was why there wasn't a nucleic explosion (nobody would've survived if that were to happen). A tearful Cagalli calls out to the unconscious Kira as she rushes to bring Kira back to the Archangel in the Strike Rouge.
Everyone is shocked when the engine explodes underwater, making everyone think that not only had the Freedom been destroyed, but the Archangel as well. Captain Gladys doesn't look too happy about it, and Shinn snaps out of his hysteric reverie and becomes grim once again.
Athrun is in a state of shock and disbelief.
Shinn returns to the Minerva amidst a crowd of cheering techies. Shinn smirks and said it was nothing that great.
He stops when he sees Athrun and walks over, announcing that he got his revenge, and Athrun's revenge as well. When Athrun shouts that Kira wasn't trying to kill him, Shinn shouts back, asking if he should be sorry and despair, pray for their enemy. He asks Athrun why he shouldn't be proud and happy that he had managed to destroy Freedom.
Athrun snaps and punches Shinn in the face. Shinn reacts and is about to fight back when the two are restrained by the shocked crew members.
Rey tells Athrun to stop it, and says that although Shinn's behavior may have been out of line, he didn't think Athrun's reprimand was just. The Freedom and the Archangel had been branded as the enemy by their superiors, and sinc ethey were ZAFT, they followed those orders. He tells Athrun that he is speaking from his personal emotions, and that it is disturbing.
Meanwhile, Dullindal's message hit the people hard. Mobs began to attack the so-labeled members of the Logos, merchants of death. Djibril is furious as panicked Logos members call him up and ask what to do.
Dullindal expresses awe at the power of the people as he thinks on whether or not the defeat of the Archangel and the Freedom meant "checkmate." Then he remembers that the White Queen (and scenes of Lacus back in the Eternal working with the factory techies, making mobile suits for the Clyne Faction) was still a powerful opponent.
Kira is safely in the infirmary, and is paid a visit by Cagalli, Mirialla, and Captain Ramius. Kira is a bit depressed, since without the Freedom he doesn't have any power. Cagalli reprimands him for thinking such thoughts, and startles him with a sausage on a fork - "eat!"
Ramius informs them that the Archangel isn't in great shape either. If they continue cautiously though, they should be able to slowly make their way to Orb.
During this visit, Neo has been listening on his side of the infirmary as he is also eating his lunch. He asks Ramius what this ship is fighting for, since they had last faught with him as well. He asks what this "Muu La Flaga" was to Ramius when the group had fallen silent, unsure of what to say to him. Ramius answers that he was a precious comrade who is no longer here.
The Minerva joins the rest of the ZAFT forces that have gathered in one base (in preparation for the attack on Logos). Gladys wonders about whether or not they are fighting for good or not anymore.
Shinn and Athrun are called to meet with the Chairman, where they are given their new units: Destiny for Shinn, and Legend for Athrun. Shinn is ecstatic, but Athrun doesn't look so happy.
The Review
This episode lives up to its title well. We can see some major conflicts brewing and ready to burst.
Kira is now weaponless, but for how long I wonder.
