The Synopsis
The story of a group of musicians whose dream is to make it to the top. They form a band called Lucifer, after the story of a "fallen angel."
The story narrows down on each character's own personal story, digging out all the painful memories to challenge both the holder of those memories as well as the rest of the band. Most of these personal problems focus on social matters, such as parental and peer pressure.
The band travels around Japan, and eventually around the world (this is left open-ended at the end of the series), spreading their rock-style music.
The story begins with Santa and Yuki, both former members of the band called "Climb." Santa decided to leave when he discovered his girlfriend, Climb's vocalist, having an affair with another member of Climb. When he leaves, Yuki leaves with him.
The two come across Towa, the bassist of Neon who is more talented than his bandmates. Towa is not satisfied with the members of Neon, who only get famous because of their looks. Towa seems to be thirsting for some real musical talent, and for people who actually strive to create good music. He decides to join Lucifer when he first hears Sakuya singing.
Atsuro is a college-bound student, raised to study and work hard at school. He joins the band after his first time on stage with the rest of the group.
They meet Sakuya at a hotel where he works as a pianist (sometimes vocalist and pianist all in one). After a long and hard trial, they eventually convince Sakuya to join their band. Throughout the series, Sakuya remains a mystery, and oftentimes a frustrating one as he frequently seems to jeopardiz the band. But eventually, Sakuya takes his role as leader (though Yuki is the official leader) more seriously.
Throughout the story, other important supporting characters are introduced. Atsuro's older sister acts as Lucifer's unofficial manager, and later travels to Europe to study music management when Lucifer makes it big and no longer needs her (they don't dump her, mind, they are really brrokenhearted when she leaves, and actually cancel a show in order to play a song for her at the airport); and the other character is Aine, who becomes Lucifer's official lyricist. She uses a male penname in order to keep Lucifer's masculine theme. She and Sakuya eventually get together as a couple, and face trials together as Sakuya's popularity increases and her identity as Sakuya's girlfriend becomes known.
